Day 48, Friday, June 8, 2012

So for this picture, I really had to edit it quite a bit in post processing to get the details pulled out.  If I would have pushed any more, it would have started to seriously distort.

Ideally, I think I probably needed to HDR this shot, but I didn't.

Day 47, Thursday, June 7, 2012

As I've said, it's been a difficult week.  One of my pleasant distractions was the arrival of of a Displayport to DVI adaptor.

Up until this point, I was under the impression that if I wanted to use a monitor with an adaptor, that it wouldn't work unless it was I used one of the expensive dual link DVI adaptors.

As it turns out, I was wrong.  It works fine!

Day 46 - Wednesday, June 6, 2012

On Tuesday, I had the pleasant distractions to keep my mind off of how things went.  For those of you who live under a rock, or, let's be honest, just don't live in the Wisconsin, my state's gubernatorial recall failed.

On Wednesday, I went to work as normal.  Worked my day, and then came home.  Then I went to bed.

Zero pictures taken.

So instead I'm posting how I feel.  Yea I know.  Not nice, professional, or whatever.

Day 45 - Tuesday, June 5, 2012

My shelf, in action!  Cell phone quality picture, so meh, but it is quite nice.

Day 44 - Monday, June 4, 2012

The shelf project is officially done!  The only regret I really have with it is that I didn't do quite a good job at cutting the sides/feet of the shelf.  It's a little tipsy, which I'm just going to use some foam to fill in the space for in my cube.

It's pretty shiny and nice.  If you want to see some other pictures, check them out here.  I'm not sure if blogger has a gallery feature, but for now Facebook will have to do.

Day 43 - Sunday, June 3, 2012

We're getting there.  Still some more work to do.

We tried to cover the screws with some plastic wood glue type thing, and it looked pretty bad.  So we ended up standing down the entire exterior of shelf, getting rid of the actual first coat of polyurethane and the excess wood glue.

I put on two coats of polyurethane today.  I'll take pictures tomorrow, but I think I shouldn't need a third coat.

It almost seems too nice to take to work.

Day 42 - Saturday, June 2, 2012

This week I've gotten my first taste of working from a cubical.  It is quite different for someone who's workplaces have been factories, tool stores, and a room crammed with desks for naughty children.  Everyone's cubical is different--some people it's just the bare minimum they need to get work done.  For others, it's like a second house.

Anyways, at work there are a limited amount of shelving units for you to have to organize your things.  Obviously this isn't mission critical type thing, but they are a nice enhancement for your space.

The other thing is, a lot of people, myself including, liked to have their monitors off the desk so they have more desk space.  So I decided that I would build myself a shelf/monitor stand.

I think it turned out pretty well.  Everything you see here was built from two boards, a 1"x12"x8' and a 1"x6"x4'.  My 1"x12" board was pretty straight, but I did not look at my 1"x6, which was extremely warped.  We ended up getting it to work (it's the back piece of the shelf.)  I think it is pretty good.  Now I just need to get the polyurethane on it and life will be good.

Day 41 - Friday, June 1, 2012

I really like the sunstars I get from my Tokina 11-16 lens.  Straight edged apature blades are the best.  This time I had to bring the tripod out, but I think this one ended up quite nicely.

FYI, that's the moon, not the sun, so I guess it's actually a moonstar.  It just doesn't quite sound as nice.

Exposure Information:  15 sec, f/16, ISO 800, 11mm

Day 40 - Thursday, May 31, 2012

Sometimes, late at night, I come home and realize that I haven't really taken a picture for the blog.  It is at these times where I have to get a bit creative.

That being said, I thought it turned out well.

Exposure Info: 1/15 sec, f/1.8, 35mm, ISO 800

Tweaked it a bit in post processing.
